Driving Creek Railway
Journey into the lush hills of the Coromandel with Great North Tours on the Driving Creek Railway, New Zealand’s most unique narrow-gauge mountain train ride. This remarkable engineering feat was hand-built by renowned potter Barry Brickell, featuring a winding track that climbs through replanted kauri forest, over innovative double-deck bridges, and through three tunnels. As you ascend the steep grade, you’ll pass through a working pottery studio and see whimsical ceramic sculptures integrated into the landscape before reaching the spectacular Eyefull Tower at the summit. From this high vantage point, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the island-studded Hauraki Gulf, making this a perfect blend of artistic creativity, pioneering history, and stunning natural beauty.
